Trauma Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is a breakthrough psychotherapy approach which helps individuals process painful, traumatic memories with remarkable speed. These stressful memories can contribute to anxiety, depression, phobias, PTSD, panic, addiction, pain and other health issues. EMDR Therapy has been proven as an effective treatment for first responders and for those who have served in the military.
EMDR Therapy is an evidence-based psychotherapy for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. It is also well-documented for the treatment of other psychiatric disorders, mental health problems and somatic symptoms. This non-hypnosis therapy approach can accelerate your healing process, and allow you to leave your past in the past. EMDR Therapy helps to resolve memories, thoughts and emotions, which have been too overwhelming for the usual, natural methods of processing to take place. Our brains are naturally wired to help us heal and adapt in a healthy way, the key is to help our brains become unstuck.
EMDR Therapy uses eye movements, physical sensations (created from handheld “buzzers”), alternating sounds, or tapping, which activates the brain similarly to what takes place during REM sleep. This process helps the brain to reorganize the memory in a more adaptive way. Clients often experience a sense of relief from the negative reactions and beliefs associated with emotionally-charged memories. The mind can heal from trauma, much like the body recovers from physical injuries. It is a rewarding experience to see my clients gain freedom from the trauma of their past and be able to fully enjoy the present.
